(In English below)

Statement: Israel must be excluded from Eurovision 2024
Eurovision is a highlight of the year for the queer community and it has an established place among Spektri’s events. The Song Contest and associated events bring people together to discuss their favourite entries and their chances as well as just to have a good time. However, this year the event is overshadowed by the actions of a state represented in the Contest, that being those of Israel in Gaza, which we condemn.
Human rights are at the centre of Spektri’s values. From this starting point we’ve evaluated our stance on Israel’s participation and whether we can arrange Eurovision related events in the current situation. We decided to hold our annual events, which don’t celebrate this year’s Eurovision specifically, but rather the song contest that’s important to our community more generally. At the same time we concluded that we must use our voice and express our stance clearly.
In our opinion the Eurovision stage has no room for states that subject civilians to horrific widespread violence. If the state of Israel does not cease those activities that hurt civilians in Gaza and does not genuinely commit to improving the conditions of Palestinians, we hope that, along the lines of the petition by music industry professionals in Finland, participating broadcasters express support for the exclusion of Israel and that the EBU make the right decision on this matter.
